The Preliminary Review is a quick, informal visual screening designed to help determine whether an item may warrant the cost and detail of a formal, substantiated, USPAP-compliant appraisal report.
This service is intended for situations where you have one or more objects and are unsure whether they have significant market value, and/or for objects which likely have a fair market value of approximately $1,500 or less.
Many objects, even if they are old, unusual, or one-of-a-kind, do not have a value level that makes it economically practical to obtain a formal appraisal report. The Preliminary Review helps identify when formal appraisal services may or may not be appropriate.
This service is not appropriate for IRS-related or litigation-related situations, equitable distribution matters, insurance scheduling, damage claims, or any situation requiring a formal opinion.
The Preliminary Review includes:
• Brief, general professional feedback based on visual inspection of submitted photographs*
• A rough “over / under” value opinion*
• Guidance on whether an item may warrant authentication, specialty consultation, or formal appraisal services*
• General advice regarding potential sale outlets when applicable
No written appraisal report is provided with this service.

Submissions Must Include:
• Clear, well-lit photographs of each item
• Dimensions when possible
• Any background information or history you have
Text-only inquiries cannot be evaluated. Photographs are required. Modern smartphones are more than capable of producing adequate images when photographs are taken in decent lighting with the object clearly visible.
• Payment is required prior to delivery of feedback
• An invoice will be issued upon receipt of photographs
• Feedback will be provided as soon as possible after payment and review are completed
Unlimited items may be submitted for Preliminary Review. This service is particularly helpful for individuals reviewing personal property where the potential value is unknown or known to be limited (less than $1,500).
Preliminary Review fees may be credited toward a full formal appraisal if it is recommended.
